Craigmyle History

When did it all start?

In 1908 Ed. Brothers wintered in what is now Craigmyle, followed by many more homesteaders in 1909.  The land for the town was owned by Wm. Nixon.  The name Craigmyle came from Mrs. Eaton's ancestral estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
In 1911 the track was graded for the railroad, with steel being laid in 1912.

Lilico

Lillico, located north of the present Craigmyle was the site of the first Post Office in the area in 1909.  The Lillico School was built in 1910.  Lillico was on Samuel Stevenson's homestead and name "Lillico" was his wife's mother's maiden name.  The post office was later moved to Craigmyle, but continued to have the name Lillico for some time.

Prices from days gone by

It's always interesting to compare how much we earned or paid for items in previous time periods.  Here are some random samplings to showcase prices.

The return on the bonds shown in this picture looks almost attractive by today's standards.
